Bebo refused itsy-bitsy dress!

Last seen in Don, Kareena Kapoor will now be seen in a single dance number in the forthcoming 'Kya Love Story Hai' which she did as friendly gesture towards the film's director Lovely Singh. Says kareena, "I've known him since 'Mujhe Kuchh Kehna Hai'. Doing the song was a gesture of love and friendship. And when he explained the concept to me and I heard the song I knew it was going to be a rocking number. I loved it. I've worn the most glamorous clothes, driven a limo and strummed a 25-feet guitar! It doesn't get better!" Incidentally, kareena had taken the year off after her last perfomance in Don. And now she chooses to return to work with a dance number. What a coincidence! Kareena plays herself in the song and when asked if she had contributes to the song in any way, she said, "I told Lovely that I would not go overboard on the glamour front with any itsy-bitsy costumes. It was my idea to perform in jeans and gorgeous gowns. Otherwise, it has been the team work of music director Pritam, choreographer Bosco, my dress designer Manish Malhotra, the director Lovely Singh, and Alisha Chinoi who has lent her golden voice to this number." Ofcourse, she knew from the very start that the song would become a chartbuster - "When I first heard it, I loved it!, she adds. So, does she have any expectations from such an appearance, we ask."There are no expectations except that I can experiment with some really glamorous looks. It is a good balance after doing films like 'Chameli' and 'Omkara' where I am deglamorised. And then there is the additional high of knowing that millions of people out there are going to dance to my moves" replies kareena who will soon be seen in Imtiaz Ali's film with Shahid as her co-star, Yash Chopra's next with Akshay and Saif, and Mani Ratnam's 'Lajjo' with Aamir Khan. Finally, the glam girl signs off with some valuable tips on how she maintain her figure- "I begin the day doing yoga and that has really helped! And thanks to Shahid (Kapoor) I have turned vegetarian, which has further enhanced my physique!".

Ash's wedding: Who's invited?

The electronic media and the paparazzi are going ballistic with supposed details about the Ash-Abhishek marriage. But the facts are extremely and exasperatingly contrary to what you see hear and read. And you heard the true facts here….for the first and last time. The wedding on 20 April is not going to be a lavish affair. Only the immediate and extended family of the Bachchans—brother Ajitabh and his family, sister Shweta and her in-laws which includes all the Kapoors –are being invited.Besides these the only people you'll see at the event are Abhishek's close friends like Sikandar Kher, Goldie Behl and Rohan Sippy. Karan Johar, who's like a son to the Bachchans with mom Hiroo Johar, and J.P. Dutta whom Abhishek looks on as a father figure, are expected to be at the wedding. Yash Chopra, his wife Pam and sons Aditya and Uday are also expected at the wedding. The lady of the house Jaya Bachchan is supervising every detail. In fact the Big B and the dulha are keeping completely out of the preparations, and that includes the invitees' list. Jaya being firm of mind and resolute in her purposes, has kept the fanfare to the barest minimum. The guest list would be in accordance with the size and capacity of the Bachchans' residence and of course the imperativeness of the potential invitees' presence on the premises. All the invitees are keeping a low profile as they don't wish to unintentionally divulge details about the wedding.Suffice it to say that some of the atrocious untruths being cooked up on the news and entertainment channels have the Bachchans enormously amused.According to reports all the neighbours have been asked to keep their gates shut to media persons and the Bachchan family has requested the aviation ministry not to allow any planes to hover over their residence during the wedding. These are completely baseless stories planted by people who have an axe to grind, or perhaps this is their way of feeling important. As Bachchan Saab told a friend, "My son's wedding is a very private solemn and precious moment for me and my family. Surely we're entitled to our privacy if and when we need it."

Katrina on a roll

As more allegations about boyfriend Sallu giving her a helping hand in Bollywood flow in, Katrina Kaif has her say, especially about Subhash Ghai's Main Yuvraj . Katrina who's currently shooting for Abbas-Mustan's Race in Dubai has plenty to be happy about. Her heroine-centric turn in Vipul Shah's Namastey London has elicited some accolades. "Yeah the film is doing well. And I think I've finally proved my critics wrong. Not that Namastey London is my first successful film. My first film Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya and then Sarkar were also successful. But, it's good to be recognised for a film that revolves around you," says Katrina. Next move forward, Katrina has just signed on the dotted line for Subhash Ghai's new directorial venture Main Yuvraj where she's paired with beau Salman. She says, "It's a big move, as Subhashji's banner is simply top-of-the-shelf. I love the way he presents heroines in his films. Look at Mahima in Pardes and Meenakshi Sheshadri in Hero . Even in male-oriented films like Karma and Ram Lakhan , Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit were no walk-overs. So yeah, I'm really looking forward to working with Subhashji on Main Yuvraj ." People would presume Katrina bagged the role through Salman's recommendation. "To think Salman got me Subhash Ghai's film is ridiculous especially when I have Namastey London to my credit now. Actually I met Subhashji long before. He had offered me a film. I think it was Kisna . He asked Vipul Shah to show him my work in Namastey London before finalising me for Main Yuvraj . That's how I think he decided on casting me," says Katrina. Trying to curb her annoyance about the allegation that Salman is responsible for her professional progress, Katrina says, "Do people think Subhashji is the kind of filmmaker who would listen to others before signing an actor? He would only sign an actor who suits the role and has always gone by what is right for his film." Katrina plays a musician in Main Yuvraj . "It's the role of a modern musician and I'll have to learn to play a musical instrument for the film. I want to get into this role after being fully prepared. When I get back to Mumbai I'll learn how to play the required musical instrument. In the meanwhile, there's Race to complete," she says.

Arshad Warsi upset in London

"They're not letting me play, yaar!" Arshad complains mock-bitterly. He's currently in London playing a football player in Vivek Agnihotri's Goal."But I'm hardly getting to play! John Abraham and all the rest are having the time of their life. While I'm just sitting around twiddling my thumbs."Reason? "I play an injured soccer player for most of the film. So I get to be on the filed at the beginning. But that's it. After that I'm out. It's very very frustrating specially since I know I'm a better player than most of my colleagues on the team. In fact our football choreographer saw me play, and wondered why I wasn't doing more of it. I guess the script demands that John's character be made heroic while I sulk around. So be it."The one person who cheers Arshad up is his co-star in Goal. "She's a Briton-based Australian actress named Zara James Naqvi and she's amazing. I've never had a better co-star. She's done seven years of theatre in England, and boy does she give me tit for at on screen."All those long hours when Arshad has to go through the agony of watching his colleagues whoop it up on the filed, he has Zara for company.

Abhishek,Indian Harry Potter?

After four years of slothful silence, Goldie Behl returns to direction with a film again stars his buddy Abhishek Bachchan. The project mysteriously called Drona is being kept under wraps. (Following the Yashraj pattern every filmmaker wants to be secretive now). But it's reliably known that Drona willl be Bollywood's answer to Harry Potter. With special effects and gadgetry galore, it will have the kind of budget technique and spectacle that would carry forward the legacy of optical opulence created by Krissh and hopefully Dhoom 2.According to a source, " Drona will be set in California. Abhishek plays a timid mousy bespectacled nerd who goes through a series of supernatural experiences. Priyanka Chopra has been approached to play the neighbourhood tomboy who's Abhishek's unofficial bodyguard. "Priyanka took a series of rigorous martial arts classes before she was ready for the athletic part. Says Abhishek, "This film will be closer to what the director thinks and feels than his first film Bas Itna Sa Khwab Hai."

SRK's girl says no to Salman

Model-turned-actress Deepika Padukone, has politely declined playing Salman Khan’s love interest in Boney Kapoor’s next film (a remake of the Telegu hit Pokhiri). She presently plays the female lead opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Om Shanti Om, Apparently Deepika backed out at the eleventh hour in a very unprofessional manner.Sources report Boney kept waiting for her at a suburban preview theatre for the screening of the original film, so that she could get a feel of her role. But then, her business manager called him 15 minutes before the show and said she was not interested in doing the film.“A screening was supposed to happen but it didn’t, as Deepika informed me in advance that she couldn’t do it. I wanted this film to be her next after Om Shanti Om and I had categorically told her that. But she told me it won’t be possible as she was committed to other projects,” says Boney.Boney continues, “I have shortlisted two new faces and I will soon announce the name of the girl who will play the lead opposite Salman. Shooting starts in June.” Deepika had a different story to tell though, “I only met Mr Kapoor once, and all I was told is that the film is a remake of a South film, Salman will be the hero and that he would produce it. Beyond that, no details were discussed. I was told that they would get back to me about the screening.” Deepika avers that she has been a model for quite some time and is known to be extremely professional. “The screening was supposed to happen provided both parties agreed on a time and date. Later, they themselves told me that there was no point in arranging a screening if I wasn’t doing the film. Mr Kapoor’s secretary Shyam coordinated the entire thing. If there was a miscommunication from his end, I don’t know.”

Katrina mocks wedding news!

Katrina Kaif has termed rumors that she plans to wed Salman Khan on 18 April 2007, two days before the Abhishek – Aishwarya wedding as "complete nonsense." The 22 year model and Bollywood leading lady who is currently filming in Dubai with Saif told TOI, "This is complete nonsense. I am in Dubai currently and I am shooting for the whole month with Saif. "It is quite irresponsible on everybody's part to entertain this story. I think it's time people started behaving responsibly." We get the point sweet heart but maybe everyone is impatient because dear Sallu isn't getting any younger!

I wanted the best for Kareena

Choreographer-turned-singer Ganesh Hegde was last year replaced by Bosco-Caesar for Rockstar tour, on Salman Khan’s recommendation. This year it is director Lovely Singh who showed him the door most recently.Hegde was supposed to choreograph Kareena Kapoor’s item song in Kya Love Story Hai, called It’s Rocking, but was later replaced Cos he ‘gave me a lot of starry airs. He is a choreographer, but he wanted to change the whole thing. I don’t know whether he is into song composition or not, but he wanted to make it a whole new song!He said he wanted to record the song his way, even though Pritam had already recorded it. When he made so many demands, I decided to replace him with Bosco-Caesar.”says Singh. Hegde says, “People who want Ganesh Hegde, must want Ganesh Hegde. I don’t have a replacement in the industry. I do only three songs a year and one of them (Main hoon Don) gets selected at all the award functions. I refuse 40 songs a year because I like to do quality work. When someone asks me to choreograph a song, it has to appeal to me.” “Kareena is a very dear friend so I didn’t want her to do a mediocre song. I wanted to help Lovely as he told me it was a small film. The only thing I suggested was to take the song to a different level. Lovely wanted hip-hop, while Pritam wanted the original. I heard both versions and felt both lacked something special. I wanted something more to inspire me. The next thing I heard was that they had replaced me.” says Hegde.

How Adnan Sami became slim

Sporting a new slimmer look, Adnan Sami reveals that he feel like an altogether new human post the weight loss. He is a firm believer in fate and attributes his success to the Almighty."Frankly there is no such secret. No body can ever predict which song is going to be a hit or a flop. If such a formula was known to any one then all songs would have been hits. So there can be no predictions. But I try to sing those songs which I like personally so that I can enjoy them myself and so do the listeners. I try to be choosy with what I do and the rest I leave to God." Speaking to us at the Spectral Harmony Studio on Saturday last where he was present to record a song "Oh Jaana Oh Jaana, Yeh Dil Ka Afsana" under the baton ship of music director Bhappi Lahiri, Adnan is full of praise for his music composer. The song is for the film 'Jhoom-Dance With Me Again' produced by Aaishwarya Babbar son of producer and director B Subhash under the banner Aaishwarya Movie Productions. The film will be directed by Shweta B Subhash and is written by Malveika B Subhash, daughters of B Subhash. Adnan says it was his third recording with Bhappida. "I have been his fan ever since my childhood." The song which we have recorded today is very fun-filled and youthful song. Bhappi Da always composes awesome melodies and his sense of rhythm is also great. So in this song too there is tremendous melody and rhythm and a lot of heart is put behind composing the song. I have also tried my best to sing it with all my heart. He feels that the people are going to like the songs as 'the melody and the mood of the songs are very bright and this song is a very peppy number'. Very fond of listening to Bhappi Lahiri's songs, he cites a number of them as examples. "Songs like 'Chalte Chalte' and 'Dil Mein Ho Tum' are very beautiful songs. There are many songs which can be named like the ones from the film 'Namak Halaal' were fantastic." He would have loved to sing all of Bhappi's songs. The talented singer feels that B Subhash is a very good director and his films speak for themselves. In Adnan's opinion the two different styles that of Bhappi Lahiri and himself would result in a fusion. He likes Bhappi's style of work. "He knows exactly what he wants and he also gives the singer the freedom to put in his own creativity to use." Adnan goes on to add, "He never limits his singers. Thus the singer puts in his creativity and the resulting fusion becomes very interesting. He encourages the singer to make his own changes which I think is wonderful." The composer in Adnan does not get in the way while he is performing for another director. "When ever I come for a play-back singing, I come solely as a singer and I try to meet to the demand of the composer. Though there is my flavour in the song but it is that of a singer and not of a composer. I never say that I could have done better as composer. Every person has a different creative vision and one should always respect that." According to the singer, it would be an honour for him to have Bhappi sing his composition. He feels Bhappi Lahiri's 'melody is always strong and his fusion sense between western and eastern music is tremendous.' Bhappi's 'sense of rhythm too is very good.' But, according to Adnan, the music composer's greatest quality is his Indian melody which is very strong and registers with the listeners. Regarding his weight loss, Adnan says he feels like he is floating! "I feel like a new human being." According to him, it has been a tough journey losing so much weight. He admits putting in a lot of effort and struggle."My health had reached such a point where my doctors had given up all hope. They had given me an ultimatum that if I don't start taking care of my health I would survive only for six more months. It came as a shock for me. And thus for my survival I took this decision of staying healthy."

Thanks Shahid, I am slim now: Kareena Kapoor

Last we saw you in Don, what prompted you to make a sensational appearance in the forthcoming KYA LOVE STORY HAI?Actually the film's director Lovely Singh is a very close friend. I've known him since Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai. Doing the song was a gesture of love and friendship. And when he explained the concept to me and I heard the song I knew it was going to be a rocking number. I loved it. I've worn the most glamorous clothes, driven a limo and strummed a 25-feet guitar! It doesn't get better! How was it facing the camera after a year? What a coincidence! I began my break last year after completing the dance number for Don, and now I have ended my break again with a dance number for Kya Love Story Hai! I was away purely out of choice because I needed to relax and unwind, but now it feels great to be doing what I have always loved doing.Did you contribute to the song in any way? Since I am playing myself in the song, I told Lovely that I would not go overboard on the glamour front with any itsy-bitsy costumes. It was my idea to perform in jeans and gorgeous gowns. Otherwise, it has been the team work of music director Pritam, choreographer Bosco, my dress designer Manish Malhotra, the director Lovely Singh, and Alisha China who has lent her golden voice to this number. Did you imagine what a huge craze It's Rocking from Kya Love Story Hai would become?I'm not surprised, when I first heard it, I loved it!Personally what kind of music do you listen to?My all time favourites are the old classics from films like Aawara, Chori Chori etc. It's Rocking actually has references to the erstwhile hit, Ude Jab Jab Zulfein Teri!

What are your expectations from your sensational appearance in Kya Love Story Hai?There are no expectations except that I can experiment with some really glamorous looks. It is a good balance after doing films like Chameli and Omkara where I am deglam. And then there is the additional high of knowing that millions of people out there are going to dance to my moves!Tell us about your forthcoming projects? Imtiaz Ali's film with Shahid as my co-star is one I am excited about, then I have Yash Chopra's next with Akshay and Saif, and there is Mani Ratnam's Lajjo with Aamir Khan. What is the secret of your slim-as-a-reed figure? I begin the day by doing yoga and that has really helped! And thanks to Shahid (Kapoor) I have turned a vegetarian which has further enhanced my physique!Any more sensational appearances like the one you've made in Kya Love Story Hai? You can never tell about life. So never say 'never' !

Karan Johar to head a TV now

NDTV Monday announced plans to launch an entertainment division, headed by Sameer Nair, who had earlier spearheaded STAR Entertainment India, in association with well-known filmmaker Karan Johar as it sought to tap the booming entertainment industry in India worth Rs.437 billion."It is a big challenge for me. It's like a new beginning for me," Nair told the media at a press conference here. "We are going to start with one channel which we are planning to launch either at the end of this year or early next year. We are still in the process of assembling the team. It is just time now to make change in the business and I hope along with the team we are ready to spearhead that change," he said.Nair is credited with making STAR Plus a market leader with hit shows such as "Kaun Banega Crorepati" and "Kyunkii Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi". "This is one of the most exciting presser I have ever attended. I am thrilled to be here flanked by two amazingly talented with people - Sameer and Karan Johar. It's always been a dream for last 20 years to start a full-fledged mass entertainment channel. But we wanted to do it properly and in the right manner," said Prannoy Roy, chairman of NDTV."We didn't want just to clone. We hear a bit about how (Indian) cinema has transformed in last five years. We hope it is time for entertainment and television also to transform itself. "When we say we wanted to do it right we really wanted to have the best team. I have known Sameer for last 10 years and we are confident that he is the best person to create something that we all are going to be proud of. As I know him for so long, I can say how brilliant he is. We really look forward to him to turn a dream into reality," said Roy.Crediting Johar for "probably single-handedly transforming Indian cinema," Roy said: "He will be ideating the whole venture as the creative head." Talking about his role, Johar said: "I am a filmmaker and the two reasons for which we filmmakers exist are imagination and entertainment. We all are here to imagine and entertain so I feel my presence on this platform is justified. With films we touch the lives and with television we are ready to enter lives." Johar, who has made superhit films like "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai" and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham", said this partnership with Nair and Roy is not a coincidence. "We were destined to work together and that is why we are here today." In its first phase NDTV Imagine will launch a general Hindi entertainment channel and later add two more channels. They, however, were not ready to talk financial details of the new venture.

It's not easy to Kick Butt: Saif

Saif has really decided to take it easy while he sends letters to his producers saying, "No more work on Sundays. I'm a hundred per cent recovered now. I have been asked to give up on smoking, and even if I wasn't, I'm smart enough to know that smoking is seriously damaging to my health." Saif dismisses the rumour that he has started smoking again as "absolute rubbish". I aint that crazy to start after I've quit? the initial three weeks is always tough for anyone who wants to quit. Once you get over that phase you're home and free. Luckily for me, I was in hospital and under medication. By the time I came out of the hospital the addiction was over," he says. Saif suffered the usual withdrawal symptoms, like the trembling of the hands, in the hospital. "But it wasn't that bad either. The real ordeal will start now. When I'm in a bar watching friends smoke, the urge is bound to hit me. I wouldn't call quitting smoking a sacrifice but a necessity requiring a very strong motivation to give up, which I had. Either I quit, or I fall ill again." "Smoking adds to the chances of your falling sick. It's like adding a bottle of whiskey to fast driving. That's what my cardiologist compares smoking to," Saif says. Saif's cardiologist is almost a divine figure in his life at the moment. "I wasn't afraid when I fell ill. I've always had a fatalistic attitude to life….never store it up, because you never know what's going to happen tomorrow. I want to enjoy the day. It might be all over tomorrow. Anything can happen at any time. If you look around you, you're bound to be petrified by what you see and hear. I mean, some kid falls out of the window and I say, 'Thank God, mine are safe.' Every day that something awful doesn't happen to me and my family, is a blessing," he says.

Shah Rukh For the Dummies!

Shah Rukh had an ‘out of body’ experience last week on unveiling his wax statue at Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum in London.Says SRK, “It’s difficult to describe what one goes through when such a thing happens. It was amusing, weird and a humbling experience.I had an idea of what my statue would look like, as I had been shown the head the night before. They needed me to be there to touch up the skin tone, but it’s a strange feeling when one is more used to seeing two-dimensional pictures. The statue is exactly the same, especially the eyes and the eyebrows, which look very real.”At the unveiling, the actor made time to attend to one of his kiddie fans – a mentally challenged boy who had driven down from the outskirts of London to catch a glimpse of the star.“I believe that people who are physically and mentally challenged are very close to Allah. It’s strange when people like them see my films and feel that I have made them better. It’s very touching and very humbling. Recently, a 16-year old paralysed girl from USA felt that she started walking because of me. She flew down with her entire family to meet me.Had met her while I was performing for my world tour the first time. She had started walking out of her own will; she feels it was because of me. I find it strange, but it’s a beautiful experience. If they find happiness looking at me, I feel gifted in a nice way,” he says, with conviction and without a trace of modesty.

Jiah Khan is not revealing yet!

Jiah Khan, the young teenage star of the dud called 'Nishabd' was missing from the scene for a while. And now, the news has come that she is on a break in London. Her video 'Take Lite' which she has sung, written the lyrics and choreographed her own belly dancing steps like Shakira, is also creating waves. She is in London to spend time with her sister who is settled there. But a little birdie informs that Jiah besides living it up in London has also been training in Tai chi & motor cycle stunts for her next film which she has signed. But Jiah is not revealing yet as she is under contract. When asked about her deliberate silence about her next film, Jiah just laughs: "Hey, I' m having great fun in London. I'm just chilling out. I'm glad that my debut performance has been appreciated. Let me have some fun before I focus completely on my next film."

Aamir and I can't wait to start

By Subhash K Jha"I feel I'm in seventh heaven. First the amazing response to Omkara, now I've signed the formal contract for Mani Rathnam's new film Lajjo. Mani wants me to prepare for the role until next winter." Kareena sounds as excited as she did when she started work on Omkara, "I'm waiting for Vishal Bhardwaj to sign me again. I'm hugely satisfied with Omkara. I had hoped it would be a new beginning for me. And that's exactly how it turned out."She sighs and ponders on the new mellow and contemplative phase in her career. "You know, it can't be a coincidence that I'm doing two literary adaptations back to back, first Shakespeare in Omkara and now Ishmat Chugtai story Lajjo. I know Urdu is a long way off from Shakespeare. But literature is literature, and I'm glad I've arrived at this new juncture in my career so effortlessly."Kareena has already started reading Chugtai's period love story, hence Kareena's second period film after Ashoka. She chuckles, "I remember how excited I was when I had signed Ashoka with Shah rukh. Now it's Aamir in Lajjo. It's every actress' dream to work with Aamir. I'm a huge fan. When I saw Rang De Basanti I was jealous. I wanted to be part of it."Kareena shares a very special bond with Mani Rathnam. In fact Mani has gone on-record to talk about what a special performance she gave in Yuva."Is it?" Kareena is delighted. "Mani is definitely one of the most special directors I've worked out. When he contacted me to do Lajjo I couldn't believe my luck. This was just what I wanted to do after Omkara. I can't forget what fun I had shooting for Yuva in Kolkata and Chennai. Now I can't wait to start work on Lajjo with Mani and Aamir."Kareena recently did a small cameo appearance in Farhan Akhtar's Don. "People are going to be shocked when they see me in my glamorous role in Don. Here I'm dancing to Yeh mera dil. I was such a simple quiet timid soul in Omkara. Hats off to Vishal for making me perform in character. I wouldn't have liked to go even a inch out of place. Vishal made sure of that. I'm very proud of Omkara."She sighs, "To work with Mani again and Aamir for the first time ….It's like a double bonanza for me. You know, I came close to working with Aamir in Vishal Bhardwaj's Mr Singh & Mrs Mehta. That was a love story about two married people who aren't married to each other. Now I'm doing another intense love story with Aamir and I can't wait to start."
